Why?

Why, in your opinion, do you feel that this topic deserves more attention?

First of all, I find these question rather disturbing to even think that ANY human being would NOT cosider this a topic that deserves everyone's attention.

- Kids are our future and to think that their life was terminated by another human who failed to follow dosage instructions and played a "want to be home doctor" who administered an over dosage of cough syrup?
Wow!!.....So much for humanity!!!

Okay anonymous, you are probably against stem cell research as well, right. What is disturbing is that adults are too eager to medicate their kids, give them water and excercise. Kids may be our future but i hate to say too many i know are lazy and ignorant

I HAVE TO SAY I AGREE WITH JOEL. BACK IN THE DAY KIDS HAD TO GO OUTSIDE AND PLAY. TODAY KIDS WANT TO PLAY VIDEO GAMES AND DONT HOW TO PLAY. EVERTHING IS GIVEN TO THEM. KIDS TODAY ARE LAZY,DONT WANT TO LOOK FOR ANYTHING. DOCTORS ARE TO QUICK TO GIVE KIDS MEDICINE,AND THE PARENT IS TO QUICK TO GIVE THEM MEDICINE. THEN WE PARENTS USE USE THAT SO CALLED SICKNESS AS AN CRUNCH.. SO THAT THEY CAN BE LAZY. ALL KIDS NEED TO DO IS GO OUTSIDE AND BURN OFF SOME OF THAT ENERGY,AND STOP GIVING YOUR KIDS NYQUIL TO GO TO SLEEP AT NITE..

we all need to be open to the idea of improvement and that includes being accountable; not being- so gullible to what we first see as the truth...any topic that deals with children ALWAYS deserves more research...they deserve more than just a quick review. they depend on adults so lets not let them down if it is within our control and this topic has an endless possibilities to better answers

I would have to disagree with what the anonymous person stated. Kids yes are less active today, and that is a another problem in of itself, but it isn't the root of this problem. The issue is that children have recently had adverse reactions to the cold medicines. This hasn't always been, and we need to get to the root of the issue without jumping the gun and removing the products completely. I don't think that this topic is one that should be considered a "hot topic". Of course regarding children it is going to have some heated debates, but simply what it boils down to is:
A) Either give your child OTC cold medications or
B) Don't give your child OTC cold medications.
Ulitmately, you being the parent have the control in this decision, and as long as it is an informed one then it will be the right one for You and Your child(ren). I myself will continue to use the cold medications, though my kids are past the age to be dangerous if they weren't I would still dose them according to the package recommendations.
